Training

Training remains a valuable and very important aspect of providing Palliative Care. We offer quality training that will improve the knowledge and skills of our staff, volunteers and community members. Improved knowledge and skills can change lives and open doors for employment opportunities, which in turn help to address certain social ills such as poverty, unemployment, gender based violence and taking responsibility for our personal health.

During the past year, the training department managed to implement and complete all training courses as planned. In 2018, 5 Home Based Care courses and 3 HIV/AIDS Counselling courses were carried out, reaching 203 students. Our staff and volunteers received in service training on a variety of topics throughout the year in order to equip them better for the task at hand. 44 staff members and 15 volunteers were trained on 13 different topics.

South Coast Hospice established valuable partnerships with organizations like the Department of Health and some businesses in the area.

Training manuals are revised regularly keeping abreast with updated and relevant research and findings.

The quality of the training provided is due to the contribution of a highly qualified training team for which we are extremely grateful. This team includes:

Karin Warman – Psychosocial Counsellor
Sr Dina Thorncroft – Clinical Manager and Sister Tutor
